About Us

Innovate Durban is a non-profit company aimed at stimulating innovation within the Durban region. Its focus is to support and promote innovation by creating platforms that will build and develop the innovation ecosystem in Durban. Innovate Durban was set up by the eThekwini Municipality 4 years ago in an effort to create a conducive environment for innovation. At the time, there was a lack of support for innovation and there was limited collaboration.

Testimonials

Richard Ahlschlager

Aurecon Group

A note of appreciation to Innovate Durban in allowing us to partner with yourselves in Innovation and Youth Development. You have made it easy for Aurecon to part of this greater vision of a vibrant, relevant and agile generation that will take Durban forward. You have treated us as a valued partner and we look forward to accomplishing greater things together in the near future as we drive this common agenda.

Valerie Flanagan

International Labour Organisation

The ILO's Sustainable Enterprise Development Facility partnered with Innovate Durban in order to launch the province's first Youth Innovation Challenge in 2015. This initiative was so successful that it has become an annual initiative attracting ever-increasing sponsorships and partnerships with the private sector. This exciting youth-oriented initiative has made it possible for hundreds of young people to develop market-relevant IT skills and to launch sustainable businesses that create much needed jobs in the province.

When interacting with Innovate Durban, one is immediately met with an iterative team of people who are intrinsically motivated by the success of our city and its incredible people. Together with its dialled-in, passionate ecosystem of partners, ID has made a real difference to emerging innovators year-after-year through initiatives like the Youth Innovation Challenge. It's rare to experience a municipal programme that goes above and beyond in fulfilling their mandate to mentor and create opportunities for its communities, and we are excited for Innovate Durban's future as it blossoms into its own organisation and identity.

Adams & Adams

An entrepreneur-friendly business environment is key to growth in our province - and that does not just mean easing regulations for small businesses and inventors, it also means opening up cost effective access to expertise and skills to help create sustainable revenue streams from SME innovation and entrepreneurship. This is what the Innovate Durban initiative achieves, and Adams & Adams has been proud to be a partner since its inception.
